Day 1 Assignment 1: In as much detail as possible write some of your memories down starting as far back as you can remember.

There are assignments that go with each day, and today was obviously Assignment one. I wrote for two hours remembering and writing in detail my own memories. So I know if anyone is reading this you're probably thinking how is that supposed to help you write your Novel? Well I asked the same question, and I think I have an answer. First of all the book says that there are some assignments that are just to help get you in the writing mode and to refresh the basics of writing stories. So that's one answer to my question, but I came up with a few answers of my own.

1.  Your past experiences are obviously going to be helpful when writing.
2. It's easier to write about someone else when you know who you are and what your own past is like.
3. You can always get new ideas from things you've done, seen, or even wish you had done.
4. Good practice, and you are writing about something you know.
5. It is from your perspective.

I'm sure there are lots of reasons but that's just what I've come up with so far.
So I plan on posting some of the stuff I work on each day so here is one of the many memories I wrote about today.

Family Reunion.
Amy screamed and pounded on the door demanding that Ben and Tom let us out of the primary room. They had pushed us both in and were currently holding both doors shut. I listened for a moment to their jokes and jabs as they laughed at Amy’s frustration. I glanced at Amy her face was red from yelling. She soon resorted to threatening them saying she was going to tell their moms. Instead of scaring them into letting her out it just made them laugh harder. Tiredly I leaned against the second door and sighed. They wouldn’t tease her so much if she didn’t react so dramatically. Quietly I scanned the room for something to do until they let us out. There was a chalk board but no chalk, tons of folded up metal chairs, and there in the corner up by the chalk board was an upright piano. The windows were locked and would have been difficult to climb out of so I made my way over to the piano. The bench squeaked and creaked as I pulled it out and sat down. I carefully opened the lid and started to play. The cold keys felt good against my small fingers, and before long I was lost in the music. I played all the songs I had learned and then started making up my own. The music twisted and turned around my fingers as I played. Suddenly I stopped playing I hadn’t noticed till now, but the room had gone silent. I spun around on the creaky bench to see what had happened, Amy was gone. Slowly I looked around the room. I was alone. I sat silently at the piano trying to decide if I should go find them or stay here. I smiled softly as I looked at the cool autumn light pouring in from the locked windows. It gave the room a soft gold hue. I glanced over my shoulder at where Amy had been. The windows over there were shaded by the trees outside giving that half of the room a cool blue hue. I smiled again and started playing once more. It was a beautiful day and even if I went and found my cousins they were probably still tormenting each other. Slowly the door swung open and I glanced over my shoulder to see who it was. It was Tom, so I turned around on the creaky bench to face him. He touched his dark brown hair and gave me a sheepish grin. “You know you can come out now we aren’t holding the doors closed anymore” he looked a little unsure as to why I was still in the room. I smiled up at him “it’s okay I’m having fun playing the piano, thanks though” he nodded “oh, okay” he sounded a little confused. He gave me a weird look as he turned to leave “you aren’t much fun to tease”.

Today was fun, but I am dying to work on my book! I can't wait until I can start writing about my characters. I'm such a nerd. :)

Anyway I'm marking today as;
Day One: COMPLETE!
